What one person considers traumatic may be different from what someone else considers traumatic. However, what two people can agree on is that traumatic experiences are unfortunate, difficult, and sad. Whether you have experienced a car accident, rape, abuse, or another event that you consider traumatic; the affects have most likely been lasting and difficult to overcome. Trauma leaves an undeniable imprint in our lives. When traumatized, it may be hard to feel close to others, trust others, or be around others. Trauma can also make your day to day life difficult. You may have a hard time sleeping, avoid going to particular places, or be easily startled. This is a hard and unfortunate way to live your life, and it may feel isolating and lonely.

I work with clients very gently and slowly when they seek me out for assistance with addressing their trauma. I provide space for my clients to share with me their traumatic experiences, however I do not allow clients to remain in a place of sadness and brokenness. Why? Because research has shown that repeating traumatic experiences is more damaging than beneficial, therefore I encourage clients to focus on how they survived their experiences and the internal strength they naturally possess.
